Our Volunteers Orientation cum EID programme at HWA on 2 Jun Sat

Rise and shine at 9.15 am on a sunny saturday morning ( 2 Jun 2007).
This was no ordinary saturday as it was projectabled's 1st Volunteers Orientation cum Exploration in Disability programme held at the Handicaps Welfare Association, Whampoa Drive. Our volunteers joined us for a morning of workshops about disability and viewed a HWA's video presentation. We were honoured to have Mr Bay Meng Chien ( a HWA member) to share his life experiences to our volunteers.
Our lunch for that day was no ordinary lunch either. Volunteers were sent off in wheelchairs to buy their lunch within the Whampoa neighbourhood. Many of them went through " the pit" literally. Most of them now understand the difficulties and challenges that the physically challenged have to go through in their daily lives. Taking the first step out of their house ( comfort zone ) was considered a challenge as alot of the places, pavements etc are not "handicaps friendly". All the volunteers shared their experiences and discussed ways and action plans to improve the quality of life for the physically challenged people.
Our team would like to thank all our volunteers and the Handicaps Welfare Association for making this volunteers orientation programme a reality!
